Immediate implant
The immediate implant
The quick solution for a radiant smile
For decades, the traditional approach in implant dentistry was to wait months after the tooth extraction and then perform several more procedures to achieve a good result with implants for new teeth. The early 2010s saw the emergence of a new era in implant dentistry with the use of immediate implants.
If it can be expected that a tooth must be removed, whether due to an infection that cannot be treated, a crack in the tooth or a defect in the tooth that cannot be restored, it is almost always possible to insert an immediate implant. This brings only advantages.
Advantages
Advantages of an immediate implant
- The healing period of 2–3 months that is usually necessary after tooth removal until the start of treatment is no longer needed.
- When a tooth is removed, the body quickly starts to break down both the existing bone and the gum around the tooth. While both can be restored, this requires considerably more effort.
- Patients get better aesthetic results with an immediate implant because the existing structures around the natural tooth are preserved.
- Only one procedure is necessary, whereas the traditional approach needs at least two, more likely three and sometimes four procedures.
- Experience has shown that there is virtually no pain during and after the procedure.
- The total duration of treatment is only four months until the permanent new tooth can be prepared and inserted.
- Less effort = lower costs. A win–win situation for everyone!
